Skill Builder:
SB #1: Have the girls committ to doing SB #1 on their own (if they take PE in school this one is already met).
SB #2: We got a Mary Kay consultant (or you could get
someone from a similar product line) to come in and discuss skin care and do facials with the girls.
SB #3: Invite a hairstylist to come in and discuss haircare and possibly demonstrate some hairstyles for the girls without cutting their hair after they are done, have the girls try out a new hairstyle.
SB #4: You could bring in some pieces of clothing--example: one pair of pants (blue, black, tan, or brown), a jacket to go with the pants, a skirt to match the pants, a neutral colored blouse (tan or cream or white), a brighter colored blouse, and a dress. Also, bring accessories like scarfs, belts, pins, jewelry. Put a blouse with the pants (outfit #1), same blouse with skirt (outfit #2), add jacket to outfit #1 (outfit #3), add jacket to outfit #2 (outfit #4), dress (outfit #5), add jacket to dress (outfit #6),
change blouses with outfits #1,2,3,4 (outfit # 7,8,9,10). Now add scarfs to each outfit either at neckline or waistlines (outfits #11-16), add fancy belt to outfits #1-16, add jewelry to these outfits (you keep changing and building onto the outfits to make them different). Each time you add onto an outfit, take something else away, you end up with countless outfits, add
a sweater or another color of pants, skirt, jacket and you can continue to make more outfits (I went to a workshop on this when I worked for a savings and loan years ago--and to think they paid someone to teach us this!!).
Technology
T #4: Have some craft materials available for the girls to take the materials and design a pin or make a necklace or bracelet.
Service Projects
SP #2: Have the girls bring in different items like toilet paper, toothpaste and brushes, combs, small soaps, washclothes, etc to make up grab bags to be given to a woman's refuge for battered women or a homeless shelter.
Career Exploration
CE #3: Have the girls interview the cosmetic consultant about
their career and education etc (this is half of it).
This completes your IPP!! For a weekend event, you could divide the girls up so that some are with the hairstylist, some with the cosmetic consultant, some making accessory item/jewelry, some sorting items to make up the bags, some doing the wardrobe. That makes up 5 stations!!!
