The Small Glade
A little ways away from the valley where most of the equines live and prosper, you find a small glade containing a calm, clear pool of water, green grass and not much else. Actually, small is not the word for it, you realize, although it wouldn't be enough space for the herd in the valley, it still could support 3 or so horse-sized equines. Spattered around the edge are enough trees to provide shade, but not darkness.
Crash! A bag falls just a couple feet away from you. "Opps! Sorry!" Comes a voice from above. You look up and see a teenage girl flapping her...her WINGS violently above your head. Besides the wings, she looks pretty 'normal', brown-haired, blue-eyed, tank top and baggy jeans. She seems to have a lot of trouble in the air, but once she is on the ground, she has as much grace as anyone else
"I'm Mariel, and I live here...now. I use to live in an ordinary Smalltown, USA. But when I woke up, on my 16th birthday with these! The doctors all had no idea how it happened, or how to fix it. They told me they didn't want to cut them off until they understood how they worked and why they grew. But everyone was always looking at me as if I was a freak show or insane or it was contagious. So one day I decided to get away from everything, so I was climbing out my bedroom window when I fell, and I started to fly! It wasn't anything like I thought it would be (I kept forgetting to flap my wings and I tired really quickly) and then it started to rain the wind began to blow and I was knocked unconscious and woke up in Mista Haven.
"Here at least no one thinks being strange is wrong....Well, that chapter of my life is over. I hope to bond with a unicorn from the Sha-Haven leys. That's what the stuff in the bag is for. I recently visited Sha-Haven, and saw so many amazing animals. That's a definite plus of having wings, I don't need to pay airfare to go places, although it'd be a lot safer."
