Mari's Weyr

Following the directions you were given by Mjast, the wyvern no running the Hatchery, you enter a set of caves off to the side of the Hatchery. Inside is a table with some dirty dishes and some open books like All Known Types of Dragons and their Kin and The Care and Keeping of Wyverns. Also on the table are various bottles and bags with handwritten labels on them. Nosing around all this is a brown firelizard. Suddenly he chirps, grabs hold of a bottle of numbweed, leaps in the air and disappears into between. A few seconds later you hear a female voice from another room ajourning the one you're in saying "Thank Fuo. Here now Galanth, calm down. There, doesn't that feel better?"

Curious, you enter the room to find Mari, bronze rider and ex-Hatchery keeper, applying numbweeb to one of the small Thread scores marring her bronze's hide. Mari is about 5'3" and looks to be about 17 years old. She has plain brown hair and brown-green eyes. The only other thing in the rather large room in a stone dragon couch and of course Galanth, the rather small but fast bronze. As Mari slathers on the numbweeb, you see Galanth's eyes turn from red to blue and finally he lies down and falls asleep. Mari then turns, Seeing you she smiles and says, "Welcome visitor. I'm Mari, the brown flit is Fuo and the bronze is Galanth, who was hatched and Impressed at Cape Weyr. I was so shocked, me, a girl, Impressing a BRONZE. But then at Cape Weyr females don't have to Impress female dragons."

"I suppose Mjast gave you my message? It sure is strange living here after I spent 17 years on Pern. I've met so many new kinds of creatures, that I never even dreamed about before. And, of course, there's no Thread to worry about. I was born the first year of the current pass, so that was all I'd ever known. Now that Galanth is grown, we return to Pern to help the Weyrs fight the Thread, but we still live her at the Mista Haven."

"How did I get here? I was looking for fire lizard clutches and suddenly Thread started falling. No, I didn't save 10 fire lizards and Impress them all. I almost got killed but Jesse had just visited her family and was flying over head, trying to stay out of the sight of the dragons fighting Thread(only a few people on Pern know about Mista Haven, and we're trying to keep it that way) when she saw me and picked me up, literally, and brought me here. She thought that she would bring me back home later, but I didn't want to leave, so I stayed here instead, helping raise any unimpressionable eggs we found or were given.

"Then once when I was visiting my family I heard about the clutch at Cape Weyr and went to apply for candidacy. While there I found a egg from a wild clutch and out popped Fuo. Fuo has been a great help to me, especially when Galanth was just a hatchling. We just came back from flying Thread. It was a rather long flight, since all most all of it was over inhabited land. Neither of us were hurt badly, but 3 of the riders in our wing will be unable to fly for a couple weeks. I'm really sorry, but I have to get some rest. Be sure to come back again though, OK?"
