Wished on a Star

I knelt upon the grass.
The moonlight on my hair.
I loved the calm serenity,
The warmth of the night air.

I gazed up towards the sky.
A single star shining bright.
And upon that lonely star,
Did I wish with all my might.

Starlight, star bright.
First star I see tonight.
I wish I may, I wish I might.
Have this wish I make tonight.

I sat there and wished.
I cried there and hoped.
I made my wish,
And at last the star spoke.

You need not wish, my dear,
For your wish is already true.
Though not willing to admit,
She is your friend through and through.

With tears in my eyes,
These not from sorrow,
I thanked the star
For the wish I did borrow.

I sat there a little longer,
And thought about what I’d wished.
About the friendship re-gained,
And how ‘twas her I’d most missed.

She is not yet willing to admit,
That healed is her scar.
But I know now it is.
I wished on a star.
