Emmanuelle Vila [CNRS]
SUMMARY: The present paper investigates the origins of
the domestic Ass and the dispersal of this animal from an archaeozoological
point. A review of osteological evidences in archaeological sites from Syria,
Iraq, Iran, as well as other adjacent countries during the IVth/IIIrd
millennium BC, considered as being the domestication time for this animal, will
be presented. The paper aims to investigate different hypotheses for the
chronological and geographic dispersal of this domesticate throughout South
Western Asia.
