TOTALITY DAY (TD)

The Solar Eclipse Mailing List (SEML) and the Solar Eclipse Newsletter (SENL) had been successful as a vehicle in bringing together solar eclipse enthusiasts, professional and amateurs alike. The international Solar Eclipse Conference in Antwerp (SEC2000), Milton Keynes (SEC2004) and Los Angeles (SEC2007), was an extension of the electronic contacts and was for sure a success. In two days over 30 lectures had been presented to approx. 120 to 150 participants from over 20 different countries. The Solar Eclipse Conferences where repeated at non-central eclipse years.  From SEC2007 onwards we left the organisation over to others.

In continuation of the De Duistere Dag (The Dark Day), which we organized in Belgium since 1995, we wanted to introduce Totality Day.  Totality Day was in general organized after each total solar eclipse. To give the participants the time to evaluate their data, Totality Day was one or two months after a “major” total solar eclipse. To avoid confusion with the Solar Eclipse Conference, Totality Day was a one-day meeting. The day was being completed with short lectures and presentations about the last total solar eclipse.
