Total Solar Eclipse 03 November 1994

Sevaruyo, Bolivia

General: Time 12h22m, Alt. 36 degrees, Saros 133, path 177 km, duration 03m04s (Max 03m36s)

About 4000 meters high in the Alti Plano. Nights very cold, days very hot. Location for 360 degrees view between cemetery and village at a small wall.

Meteo and light from 5h30 in the morning, at -10 degrees C, till it was hot and I got burned at 50 degrees C. For 3 mornings, including eclipse morning. The afternoon before, there was a sand storm. Its 7h19, a small bite out of the solar disc. It’s very clear, now and then a strong wind. There are 3 small groups sunspots. Twenty minutes before totality, cocks call. Thin clouds strings causes a halo left and right. The sun is in a clear spot at totality at 8h22. Did not see the racing shadow. The sun disappeared with a small but crafty diamond. And in a flash Venus and Jupiter appeared as well. Venus is only 5 degrees from the sun. Prominences and behind me Sirius at about 150 degrees from the sun. Mercury and Spica must be behind the tin string of cloud.

No cloud in the sky. Too beautiful to be true. Every morning was clear. The night before the eclipse there was a thin layer of cirrus. The more sunrise, the less clouds. The corona is asymmetric with big streamers all over in the C90. During totality I watched Venus in conjunction below, close to the sun, as a big large crescent. Behind the horizon was light, clear and a little colored. Totality finished with a few prominences and red chromosphere with weak diamond and Venus could be seen minutes after totality. Nearby sheep did not notice totality and cocks called again.

The morning before the eclipse morning, the small lunar crescent was visible at 27 days old.
