At the platform at the Niagara Falls in Canada.
Very unique.
Although it started clear, it went very cloudy and I even had to stop the measurements. The first contact was at 11h41 and I could observe till about 12h. The eclipsed sun disappeared behind the clouds. It started raining. Very heavy, so I had to cover the instruments. Behind me, at the opposite, there was a clear spot. It was quite cold due to the rain. Maximum was to be at 13h21 and it started lightning and thunder. There was a hole going into the direction of the sun. And indeed, I could see the annular eclipse through the clouds, without filter. I could take some slides and then the sun disappeared again behind the clouds. Third contact was at 13h27, but it took over 20 minutes before the sky cleared. With filters I could observe the remaining of the eclipse.
It was a clear sunrise. But it changed ...
Thunder, rain and lighting during a central eclipse. Very spectacular.
