Tuol Kork is the area of Phnom Penh where our house is, as well as the OMF Mission Home and the main University campus. Lonely Planet Cambodia, by Nick Ray, April 2000, describes the area as follows: ... if there is one area to avoid in general at night in the city, it is the area of Tuol [Kork] to the north of Boeng Kak lake, which is the main brothel quarter in town and the kind of place where drunk Khmers shoot each other over a karaoke microphone after too many ales. Somehow it doesn't seem that bad, but then we live in the south of Tuol Kork, and don't go out much after dark!
Pictures of our water pump and our third-floor 1,000-litre water tank (plus 'steps' to allow inspection of the level and override triggering of the pump) have been included as they are such a vital part of life here!
The photo of the CAMA Mission Home is included to illustrate the Cambodian approach to extensions - they are simply building another storey on the existing building. In addition, they have placed the new entranceway in the drive, and hopefully will join it to the rest of the building later!
