About St Botolph's Church

Baptisms and Weddings

Baptism is the start of a Christian journey, the entrance to the church. Before every baptism you will receive a visit to explain the meaning of baptism, what to expect in the service and answer any questions you may have. Baptisms are held at 12:15 on any Sunday in either Church. To arrange a baptism please call the Parish Office or come to speak to the Vicar after a church service.

Weddings can be held in either church, providing the couple can show an established connection with the parish - if you are not sure if you qualify, or would like further details and booking information, please contact the parish office, or speak to one of the clergy after a service.

Bible Study and House Groups

These groups meet to study the Bible more closely through discussion, prayer and by sharing thoughts and experiences in a relaxed atmosphere. The format varies slightly depending on each group and their requirements. Some groups are following a particular course or will use relevant background material to help understand bible passages, If you would like to join a group please contact the vicar who will discuss which group would be most suitable. We also hold short informal courses for new comers to the Christian faith or those who wish to refresh their knowledge.

Meditation Group

No, we don’t sit cross legged on the floor chanting mantras! Our meditation is of the contemplative sort – just sitting quietly (in chairs) reflecting on a piece of scripture and sharing our thoughts and reflections with each other. The sharing is not compulsory but often an interesting discussion follows We share prayer concerns for those known to us who are unwell or need our prayers and these are included in a short compline (evening prayer). We end with refreshments served by the host(ess) for the evening. This group is one of the oldest in Shepshed having been supported by Christians from different churches for over 25 years. Prayer is our way of talking to God; reading our bible is God’s way of talking to us.
