Public Service Awards - Requirements
Complete the following tests to the satisfaction of the examiner
01. Understand what is a First Aider
02. Gain a basic knowledge of the priorities of First Aid (Dr.ABC)
03. Have a good knowledge of how the breathing system works
04. Demonstrate a full knowledge of CPR
05. Understand the basics of the blood system
06. Have a good knowledge of unconsciousness (HSS)
07. Demonstrate a good understanding of strains, sprains & dislocations
08. Have a good knowledge of concussion & compression (HSS)
09. Understand how to treat above symptoms
10. Understand the signs, symptoms, history & treatment of miscellaneous conditions listed :
Epilepsy - diabetes - heart attack - angina - burns & scalds - stroke - heat exhaustion - eye injury - fainting
Note : Each Rover will need to hold a First Aid Certificate to attain the 'BP Award '
Complete the following tests to the satisfaction of the examiner
01. Explain the risk of fire, demonstrate evacuation procedure from a premises
02. Understand the basic functions of :
Fire doors - sprinkler systems - fire hose reels - fire alarms - hydrants
03. Understand spontaneous combustion, understand some precautions, & understand where this phenomena is likely to arise
04. Plan the precautions need for a meeting room, seating and standing
05. Demonstrate rescue of a person using ladder, dragging or a rope
06. Demonstrate a knowledge of the use of standard fire extinguishers
07. Understand the need for a fire book, registering a. Equipment
b. Extinguisher checks c. names of persons on the premises
08. Organise a fire drill and the precautions needed with safety areas and registration of personal
Complete the following tests to the satisfaction of the examiner
01. Be able to send and receive a message via semaphore
02. Be able to send and receive a message via Morse light - buzzer
03. Cryptic messages & cipher’s words - numbers
04. Understand a correct method of using 3 different types of phone
05. Demonstrate the use of a fax machine
06. Have a good knowledge of the Internet and the modem system
07. Have a basic knowledge a PC system
08. Have a working knowledge of at least 3 computer languages
09. Understand the use of a scanner and additional soft ware
Complete the following tests to the satisfaction of the examiner
01. Information Technology (Internet & IT)
02. Understand basic postal systems
03. Collection of articles
04. Gaining and dissemination of articles
05. Lay out & paste up
06. Printing News letter
07. Circulation & distribution of news letter
08. Collect and deliver a message
Note : (Using memory travel 5 miles then deliver a message first given whole, do not write it down)
Complete the following tests to the satisfaction of the examiner
01. Demonstrate that the Rover has thoroughly explored an area of at least two miles’ radius (not around the area lived in) a Log / Report will need to be made of the of at least two specific sections mentioned below :-
Note : Each Log submitted will need to give details of mileage covered, and should include, photos, maps and explanatory notes about the event and a detailed list of those taking part
Complete the following tests to the satisfaction of the examiner
01. The Rover will need to carry out these tests in any language but their own.-
a. Carry on a simple conversation lasting about 15 mins. using some of the words that might be used around the scouting world, i.e.. camp, cooking, patrol, tent and Rover
b. Write a letter of about 300 words dealing with a simple topic, chosen by the examiner
c. Be able to translate from a news paper, book or letter (Do not use a dictionary)
d. Many other languages can be chosen besides the usual, i.e.. Macaton, Yiddish, Esperanto etc.
Note : An additional badge will be worn above the badge to describe the language spoken
Complete the following tests to the satisfaction of the examiner
01. A Rover will need to be able to swim
02. Enter the water by straddle jump, wearing light clothing, swim 100 meters to struggling swimmer and return them to the side or bank
03. Wearing light clothing, swim 100 meters to an unconscious casualty, non breathing; and return them to the beach or bank, whilst performing expired air resuscitation
04. Standing waist deep in water, be able to throw and un weighted line to land within arms length of a swimmer, not less than ten meters away
06. Surface dive to a depth of 2.5 meters and swim at least 5 meters under a floating object or obstruction
Note : This test should not be performed in a swimming pool

Proficiency Awards - Requirements
Complete the following tests to the satisfaction of the examiner
01. Have undertaken to apply to the dept. Transport for a provisional Licence
02. Study the manual provided by the transport dept
03. Pass the test's as set out by the transport dept.
04. Go on to pass the either the HGV i. ii. iii.
04.a. An award number (Rep. HGV i. ii. iii . ) should be worn as you progress through the levels
05. Advanced drivers certificate (Award stripe iv)
06. Go on to gain the PSV Licence (Award stripe v)
07. Understand the basics of the combustion engine
08. Have a basic knowledge of the automatic or gear system
09. Keep and maintain a clean driving Licence
Note : Remember that drinking and driving kills and maims for life (Do not do it !!!)
Complete the following tests to the satisfaction of the examiner
01. Have a detailed understanding of the laws of navigation as they relate to power craft
02. Have a thorough knowledge of the sound signals when changing direction in the power boat
03 Take charge of a power boat and complete a basic maneuvering course, to include negotiating the navigation of at least one lock
04. Have a working knowledge of ships’ charts, lights, day marks and bouyage requirements
05. Demonstrate the rescue of a swimmer in trouble, in deep, flowing water conditions
06. Have a thorough knowledge of anchors and there uses
Note : This badge will need to be conducted by persons with correct training / experience
Complete the following tests to the satisfaction of the examiner
01. Complete two group exercises, involving navigation skills. One of which should be at night and must include, not less than, five “incidents” set by the examiner
02. Demonstrate proficiency in any two of the following. Each activity must be from a different category :
(a) Swimming & Diving
(b) Archery or Shooting
(c) Rock Climbing, Abseiling, Caving
(d) Martial Arts, Wrestling
(e) Rowing, Surfing, Canoeing
(f) Sailing, Boating,
(g) Cross Country, Cycling, Horse Riding
Complete the following tests to the satisfaction of the examiner
01. Be able to describe the effect of pollution on wild life resulting from: fire, over grazing, unwise forestry practice, soil erosion, and water pollution
02. Know how erosion affects fish feeding grounds and spawning grounds. List the main source’s of pollution in our streams
03. Do one of the following :
(a) Make a list of the wild life, flowers, birds, mammals and insects on a plot of ungrazed land of about 4 acres in size, either marsh or woodland
(b) Select one species of wild life common to its neighbour hood and work out the best ways to protect it (write up a project)
(c) Take time out with game keeper, Fisheries officer or conservationist, and write a report on the experience and the methods used by the person who you have spent time with
04. Do one of the following :
(a) Help stock or fertilise a farm pond
(b) Plant up to 100 yds of stream banks to help control erosion
(c) Help plant a wind break or hedge or other suitable winter protection cover for wild life
(d) Build, monitor and set out in a suitable place 8 nesting boxes
Note : You will need to demonstrate a good knowledge of the terms and language of the conservationist you will need to keep a log for inspection for each of the above sections
