I am not a Quaker. However, I have attended a Quaker Meeting for Worship on more than one occassion. I find the Quaker faith to be very appealing. This is mainly because it is not in any way dogmatic. It would seem to be a article of faith amoung the Quakers that no one man is more capable of understanding God's will and design than another. Consequently, Quaker meetings are very democratic. The determination of the core values of the Quaker faith is also handled in a very democratic manner.
The Quakers would seem to limit the expression of their faith to the contents of one single book, known as "Quaker Faith and Practice". This book in turn contains a much smaller section known as "Advices and Queries". The "Advices and Queries" section is often printed separately in a small volume of its own. The content of the Advices and Queries and of Quaker Faith and Practice is assessed and updated from time to time as the need arises. This again is done in a very democratic manner. There is no priestly hierarchy, which determines the faith of the Quakers. The Quakers decide these matters for themselves.
