Introduction

Jean Desire Gustave Courbet was a French painter who was born on 10 June 1819 and died on 31 December 1877. He produced some fabulous work during the course of his life, the most famous of which would doubtless be the extremely erotic painting entitled, L'Origine Du Monde.  This painting now hangs in The Musee D'Orsay in Paris.

There is an extensive section, devoted to Gustave Courbet, on Wikipedia.  I feel that it would be extremely remise of me if I did not draw your attention to it.

Warning

The following section displays two of Monsieur Corbet's more erotic works of art.  Please do not view these images if you are likely to be offended by extremely graphic depictions of the female form.  Monsieur Corbet's painting, "L'Origine du monde" (The origin of the world) was painted, as a private commission for a Turkish Diplomat named Khalil Bey, in 1866.

This painting is a very fine work of art.  It hangs on the walls of the Musee D'Orsay, a very respectable Museum in Paris and my favourite museum in the whole world.

The painting "L'Origine du monde" is a beautiful painting of a very beautiful woman.  At the same time, however, it does rather resemble the imagery viewable in certain men's magazines, at a time when those images had started to become quite explicit.  When I once e-mailed this image to a certain lady friend of mine, her response was quite an angry one.  You have been warned.  Please proceed accordingly.

Do you wish to proceed on to view Monsieur Corbet's erotic art:   Yes  or  No ?

The Famous Painting L'Origine Du Monde

Gustave Courbet - L'Origine Du Monde

This fabulous painting now hangs in the equally fabulous museum, The Musee D'Orsay. It was painted as a commision for Khalil-Bey, a Turkish Diplomat and former ambassador to the Ottoman Empire in Athens and Saint Petersburg, who had just moved to Paris.

Courbet was introduced to Khalil-Bey by Charles Augustin Sainte-Beuve.  Monsieur Sainte-Beuve was both a Medical Doctor and also an art critic and academic, living and working in Paris at that time.

There is an entry for L'Origine Du Monde on Wikipedia.  If you wish to know more about this fabulous painting you could do a lot worse than to visit the link I have provided to that entry.
