The Pedrera Building in Barcelona (aka Casa Mila)

The first time I visited Barcelona I tried to see as much of Antonio Gaudi's fabulous architecture as possible.   I had read George Orwell's very dismissive, indeed contemptuous, views on The Sagrada Familia, as expressed in his book, Homage to Catalonia.   However, I had also heard a great many very positive things about Gaudi's architecture, so I thought I would see some of it for myself.

One of the places I saw, on my first visit to Barcelona, was Casa Mila, aka The Pedrera Building.   While I was wondering around on the roof, looking at the amazing, and rather large chimneys and air vents, which looked rather like strongly built, rather aggressive Roman Centurians in full armour, a gentleman came through the door, from the inside of the building, hand in hand with his four year old daughter.   This little girl took one look at the scenery Gaudi had created and she exclaimed "Wow!".   I decided, there and then, that any architect who could impress a little girl of four, so that she gave his work such unbridled adulation, was definately doing something right!

However, the architecture of The Pedrera Building is not the only reason to see it.   On the top floor of the building, there is also a Gaudi Museum.   This museum shows a number of films and videos of Gaudi's work.   If you start the first day of a holiday in Barcelona with a visit to this museum, it might seriously influence your sightseeing agenda for the rest of the holiday.   This would be a good thing, in the not so humble opinion of your host, here on Rikipedia.   For myself, for instance, I made up my mind to see Park Guell as a result of seeing a film about it in the Gaudi Museum at the Pedrera Building.   This turned out to be a very good decision.   Park Guell is fabulous!

Introduction

I saw this movie many years ago.   I have always remembered it.   It was fabulous!   To begin with it stared the lovely Victoria Abril.   Added to that, however, the music, the scenary and the cinematography were all quite, quite magical.   I do not remember all of the music. However, I do remember numerous shots of a coach travelling through the Spanish Countyside, while Erik Satie's gymnopedia number 1 played in the background.   It was unbelieveably magical.   I do not remember the story in any detail.   A man in his late middle age is travelling through Spain in a coach with his wife.   At some point he meets and falls in love with a totally bewitching, but somewhat sadistic young woman, played by Victoria Abril.   Somehow the story was not the important thing. The beauty was the important thing: The beauty of the scenary, the beauty of the music and the beauty of the fabulous Ms Abril!
