Introduction

The Bedford River Festival is the weekend on which Bedford celebrates the River Great Ouse. This is the wonderful river, which runs through Bedford Town Centre. The River Ouse, as it passes through Bedford, does not possess quite the size and majesty of the river Thames, as it passes through London. However, it is a very attractive river nevertheless. You can see this for yourself by examining some of the photographs, which are displayed below.

The Bedford River Festival is a bi-annual affair. That is: it takes place every other year. The date of the river festival is normally the middle weekend in July. The last Bedford River Festival took place on 15th and 16th July 2006. The next Bedford River Festival should take place in the middle of July 2008.

On this web page I show a few photographs of the 2006 Bedford River Festival. However, while the photographs shown here attempt to do the event justice, there is a lot I have missed. In addition to the items I have photographed here, the Bedford River Festival also featured:

• Covered and open areas given over to food stalls, crafts, local businesses et cetera. In other words a whole collection or covered and open market spaces spread out on the banks of the River on the day of the River Festival.
• A number of live bands, playing throughout the day. The quality of the live music being so good that there are usually several sound stages set up in and around the area between Nicole's Restaurant, located on the Embankment, next to Bushmead Avenue and Shaftsbury Avenue, near the bridge over the river at Longholme Way.

All the fun of The Fair

The two photographs below show the Ghost train and the dodgems. This is just a very small section of the xxx on offer. The whole of Russel Park was taken up with a plethora of joy rides and fairground attractions, including a huge Ferris Wheel.
