Alan Milburn Resigns as Secretary of State for Health

Alan Milburn MPJohn Reid MP

It may well have come to your notice that the Secretary of State for Health has resigned. You will know, too, that PITY II has liaised with Mr. Milburn and his staff with regard to the change in the law that we have been fighting for so that the dreadful organ retention issues that have affected so many families, never ever happen again.

The resignation statement was, to say the least, a shock to the vast majority of families affected by the retention issues. PITY II hopes for, and looks forward to, an effective working relationship with the new Secretary of State for Health and a speedy resolution for an effective change in the law that will protect families in the future. These events must never happen again. We look to John Reid, MP, to honour the commitments already made and to bring about the required changes in law as soon as is humanly possible.

PITY II (Parents who have Interred Their Young Twice) is the parents' support group set up in the wake of the organ retention scandal
at Alder Hey Hospital (Liverpool, UK). It aims to provide self help support and advice to affected families.
