Memorial Service

CandleSeveral months ago it was suggested that at some stage there should be a memorial service to commemorate all the children affected by organ retention. Alder Hey felt this was a good idea, and has been taking the lead in discussions with local church leaders. A date was proposed for November.

Many parents have indicated that although they feel a service is a good idea, it should be organised by parents, not the hospital. There were also concerns that November would be too soon, as many parents will still be coming forward to see if their child was affected.

These points have been made to the hospital, and the service will not now be in November. How do you feel about a service? Should there be one? When should it be? Should it be organised by the parents? Should staff from the hospital be invited?

Please contact the office (details above) to make your views known. If we were to organise a service would you be willing to help?

PITY II (Parents who have Interred Their Young Twice) is the parents' support group set up in the wake of the organ retention scandal
at Alder Hey Hospital (Liverpool, UK). It aims to provide self help support and advice to affected families.
