Families Liaison Group

There is now a families liaison group set up by the hospital, which has met twice so far. This group offers a forum for parents and relatives involved to meet with representatives from Alder Hey to share information, and provide advice to the hospital on how issues around the return of organs and other related issues should be handled. It does not discuss individual cases.

All co-ordinators were asked if any of their members were interested in being on the group, and PITY II's representatives are Christine Austin, Ed Bradley, Tracey Fabiani, Jeff Harris, Alice Proctor, Pauline O'Hare, and Christine Woods.

There is also a Serious Incident Project Board, where the representatives of PITY II are Tracy Brannan and Jan Robinson. This meets fortnightly and discusses the management of the organ retention issue with senior representatives from the hospital, the university, and senior health service representatives from outside of the hospital. The minutes of these meetings are circulated round co-ordinators. If you want any issues raising at either of these meetings, please contact the office (details above).

There has been some concern that PITY II is co-operating with the hospital, but we feel that only by working with them can we try and improve the handling of the issues. If you have any anxieties, then please contact the office.

PITY II (Parents who have Interred Their Young Twice) is the parents' support group set up in the wake of the organ retention scandal
at Alder Hey Hospital (Liverpool, UK). It aims to provide self help support and advice to affected families.
