What If? There has been massive interest from the media in the story of the parents locally, nationally and even internationally. The pressure from the media helped to get the Independent Inquiry. However the group knows how demanding the media can be. Anyone who does not want to speak to the media, or have their child identified, does not need to. There are lots of parents who are now experienced in dealing with the media, and will be happy to do so. We now have a press officer,
Ed Bradley, who will co-ordinate requests for interviews. Nobody's
name will be given to anyone from the media. This of course does not
stop individuals contacting the media themselves if they wish.
The group is there to support parents. If what you want is to have contact with other parents in the same boat, then that is fine. You do not need to fund-raise, attend meetings, nor get petitions signed. How involved you get is up to you. If you feel that the approach
the group is taking is wrong, or if there are other things we should
be doing, then please let your co-ordinator or a committee member
know.
Although the group is keen to co-operate with the Independent Inquiry, so that we can get some answers and see changes made, the original demand was for a full public inquiry. If the Independent Inquiry is not satisfactory, then we will push for a public inquiry. We are continuing to get petition forms signed asking for a public inquiry. This petition will be submitted to the Prime Minister if we are not satisfied with the outcome of the Independent Inquiry.
