Meeting with MPs The MPs welcomed the chance to meet with some of the parents, and shared their concerns. They were pleased to hear of the action being taken by the group, and Ian Cohen (group solicitor) outlined some of the concerns. Although the MPs appreciated the desire of the group to have a public inquiry, they pointed out that this could take years to set up. They felt that the Independent Inquiry was a better, and speedier, way of getting to the truth; and ensuring changes in the law so that it wouldn't happen again. The government has said that it will act on the recommendations of the Inquiry, and the MPs, mentioned above, confirmed that they would press the government to take action once the outcome of the Inquiry was known. The MPs said they would write to the Chairman of the Inquiry to stress the need for the sample of parents to appear in person to the Inquiry to be large enough to be truly representative, and to check that the parents concerns would be taken on board. Eddie O'Hara would also contact other MPs to highlight the issues. The group agreed to keep in touch with the MPs and let them know if there are any problems that they could help with. If you have contacted your MP and found them helpful or otherwise, please try and let your co-ordinator or a committee member know.
