Do I Need A Solicitor? Ian Cohen at Goodman's Solicitors in Liverpool is acting as solicitor to PITY II in relation to the Independent Inquiry. This means that he is working with the group to ensure that the views of parents are taken into account in the terms of reference and the management arrangements for the Inquiry. He is also working with other solicitors involved on a co-ordinated approach. If the Inquiry asks you to give evidence, Ian and the legal team will accompany you unless you have nominated your own solicitor. If you want to make a financial claim against the hospital for compensation over what has happened, then you need to see a solicitor. You should check that the solicitor you choose is qualified to do personal injury work. Legal action can be very expensive, and the solicitor will be able to advise you about costs, and whether you qualify for legal aid. Please note that legal aid is likely to cease for personal injury claims from 1st April 2000. You do not need a solicitor:
If you need any independent advice you can speak to your local Community Health Council (CHC), or contact Liverpool Eastern CHC. |
