How Does PITY II Work?

As the group is very new, its structure is only just developing. There is a small committee (names and contacts can be obtained by contacting the office listed at the top of the page) chaired by Joan Wheeler, who started the group.

The committee is meeting regularly to sort out some basic details like how the group should operate, and organising a bank account. The committee members are volunteers, apart from the Secretary who works for a Community Health Council. We need more people to come on the committee as there are only four of us and we need eight.

There are over 200 families involved with the group, although this number is increasing every week. Each area has one or more co-ordinators, details of whom can be gained at the office.

Co-ordinators receive information from the committee and group members on a number of different matters including:

  • current activities;
  • information on the Inquiry;
  • the current legal situation from the group solicitor;
  • and lists of local counselling services.

Some co-ordinators have organised local group meetings whilst others keep in touch by phone or letter. If you have not heard from your co-ordinator, please get in touch with your nearest one, or ring a committee member to find out who your co-ordinator is.

There have been three open meetings so far for the group, and when another one is arranged, you will be notified. The committee is very concerned that members of the group may feel that actions are being carried out on behalf of the group that they do not know about. As the situation is very fast moving communication can be a problem, and arranging meetings that some people have to travel miles to is not a practical solution.

The committee has started to meet on a regular basis and will send a weekly brief out to all of its co-ordinators so that they can keep you informed of what is happening. If there are any activities happening in your area, please let one of the committee know so that we can pass it on to all of the co-ordinators.
