Telecommunications Network Design

Optical network design including virtual and physical topology optimisation; network extensions; node design and placement; wavelength allocation and routing. Network cost modelling. Traffic estimation and forecasting. Reliability and restoration. Single-layer and hierarchical networks; core, access and end-to-end networks.

Evolutionary Algorithms

Evolutionary algorithms including genetic algorithms; genetic programming; genetic/heuristic hybrid algorithms. Heuristic design algorithms. Applying evolutionary algorithms to network design. Improving the performance of evolutionary algorithms in engineering applications.

Object Technology

Applying object-oriented analysis, design and programming to network modelling, design and optimisation.

Software Agents

Software agents for network control and restoration; evolving software agents; mobile software agents; ant colony optimisation; particle swarm optimisation.
