An Introduction to Leonard Cohen

Introduction

There is a huge amount of material, by or about Leonard Cohen, on the World Wide Web.  However, it can be difficult to view it.  This is because, as far as I am aware, there is no index to it all.  That's where this web page comes in.  This is my own humble attempt to index it.

At the time of writing, this index is a long way from providing a link to all of Leonard Cohen's work on the World Wide Web.  However, I am working on that.  I intend to expand this index over the course of time.

It is not intended that this web page should be your main source of access to Leonard Cohen's opus.  I hope you will be persuaded to buy his albums and catch him on tour.  My purpose in creating this web page is to introduce Leonard Cohen's work to those of you who do not know him.  There is something about Mr. Cohen's music and lyrics which is rather magnificent.  Dare I say it, there is something about Mr. Cohen's work that is Holy.  I say that, in spite of the fact that his novel Beautiful Losers was once described as being the most disgusting book ever to come out of Canada (or some such thing).

The various versions of Leonard Cohen's song Hallelujah

In the run up to Christmas 2008, two separate versions of Leonard Cohen's song Hallelujah were at the top of the British music charts.  These two versions were by Alexandra Burke and Jeff Buckley.  I thought it might be interesting to provide links to both of these versions, together with some of the over versions of this song, which are accessible via the World Wide Web.  Here they are:

The X Factor

This is a pop music quiz, shown on TV, here in the United Kingdom, where the winner is destined for fame and stardom.  The performances are judged by a panel of judges including, among other people, a gentleman named Simon Cowel, who seems to have become somewhat famous for his uncompromising criticism, on this same TV show, of any artist(s) whose performance he considered below standard.
