Memories of Howden's past on tape

Who are the Howden Reminiscence Group?

Hi and welcome to the latest addition of the Howden Reminiscence Group (HRG) newsletter. It’s the best place to find out what is happening on the local history scene right here in Howden East Yorkshire.

The Howden Reminiscence Group is part of the Howden Local History Class.

Can you help?

The HRG has been set up to record, on tape, the memories of the senior citizens of Howden. To record their memories of the town and its people during the 1930s, 40s, 50s. (and earlier if possible).

What are our aims?

The objective of these recordings  are to compile an audio history of Howden :
  •   to produce a talking book.
  •   an history book of  Howden in the 20th century.

Have you a tale to tell about growing up in or around Howden?

The recording sessions are conducted, very informally, with a small group of people (normally about 9) sat in armchair comfort with a cup of tea and biscuits and just talking about the things they can remember of the "Good Old Days" "Bad Old Days" of their childhood.

The tape recording can be stopped, replayed and edited at anytime so the people being recorded have complete control of what is finally reproduced on the tape.

Worried about being tape recorded? If you have any reservations about being recorded why not come along for the tea and biscuits anyway and  just listen, there is no obligation to take part.

Where do we meet?

The HRG meet in the Howden Community Centre on Hailgate fortnightly on Monday afternoons between 3.30-5.0 pm.
