PAULA KNIGHT BAND - IN CONCERT.....

"The Bluesbunny" Live Reviews: Paula Knight live at Hustlers, Dundee Sat Sept 6
Dundee, they say, is the city of discovery. Well, those in attendance of last night's show will have made a discovery of their own in Paula Knight. The formerly Glasgow-based rocker launched her album, "Wonder", to a receptive crowd in her hometown. Paula's music is heavy but could not be classed as noise pollution. While Paula's hard-rocking sound perhaps lacks the commercial appeal of Joan Jett or PJ Harvey, there's a certain energy that Paula and her band create that sets them apart from those ten-a-penny indie rock bands that clog local music scenes with tiresome, uninspired insipidness. Paula's vocals were well-suited to the Hustler's sound system particularly on tracks such as "Forbidden" while "Seven Skies" allowed Paula to show that the girls can give the guys a run for their money when it comes to rocking out. At least this girl can! Paula's backing band has been subject to change in recent times but, on tonight's showing, they're more than capable of doing their duty while allowing Paula to take centre stage. "Wonder" should now be available in all good independent record stores, as well as at the Dead Earnest website.
