MANOR PARK ELITE - WE ARE SKELETONS CD-EP
“We Are Skeletons” flies into view as the band deliver a strong song with a sense of urgency, density and strength, the lead vocals conveying a striking sea of lyrics over some seriously catchy guitar riffing and driving rhythm section, the whole thing possessing great depth as the short, sharp but commercially strong song makes its presence felt. “Je Suis Le Meutrier” is, if anything, even stronger sounding, and while perhaps not quite as obviously commercial as its predecessor, it nevertheless has a real anthemic quality to it, another strident guitar riff underpinning the fast-paced rhythm section and full-sounding guitar undercurrent. That it lurches into a ska-tinged mid section before a guitar break erupts only then to have the song return to its intense main flow, is a mark of the quality of arranging that this band is showing. “The Grey” opens a tad more sedately with a chiming guitar intro heralding slowly crashing drums and deliberate bass as the more mid-paced song comes into being, the yearning vocal providing the angst on a song that builds and bursts with some electrifying lead guitar breaks along the way, but sticking to the song as its main focus, the lack of any particular hook or chorus not impeding its progress or enjoyment in any way, as it reveals another quality songwriting side to the band. “If You're Shouting” starts with fast-paced jangly guitar before the whole band kicks in and this blazing trail of guitars and rhythms drives ahead, only for the pace to drop back for the verse, before picking up speed once the verse ends, then constantly switching between the two and working a treat.
