Creating your website is easy. It can all be done on the hard drive of your PC and it requires no special tools whatsoever. You can edit your HTML and CSS files using Notepad and then you can open them up, while they are still on your C drive, using Internet Explorer. If your HTML files generate working Web Pages when run them from your PC, there is every chance that they will generate working Web Pages when they are opened up over the World Wide Web.
The hard part, and the point at which you need to start paying money, is when you pay to have your files hosted on the World Wide Web. Howver, there is some good news. There are a very few companies who will host your web files for nothing. One of these companies is Geocities. As it happens you are viewing this very web page on a website hosted by Geocites. Getting your own website hosted in a similar way is relatively simple.
I have created a page of instructions for hosting files on Geocities on The Bedford Silver Surfers Wiki. If you would like to know how to create your own free Web Space on the Geocites Server, please click here: Publishing a Website on Geocities for free.
