- SINGLE TICKET - B.I.T. (Biglietto Integrato a Tempo = "Integrated Time Ticket")
Price: 1.00 Euro
It can be used on any bus, tramway, subway, urban and metropolitan trains within the metrebus' urban boundary.
It has a validity of 75 minutes, and it can be used for catching an unlimited number of buses and tramways within this range of time.
Instead, it can be used only as a single-ride ticket on subway and urban trains; this does not affect the unlimited rides on buses and tramways: for example, within 75 minutes a passenger may catch a bus, then a subway, then other two buses, etc.
The ticket has to be stamped on the first vehicle (this will show the starting time from which the 75 minutes are elapsed).
When catching a subway train as a second ride, the ticket has to be stamped again (at the opposite end), to pass the barriers.
If the opening ride is by subway, instead, there will be no need to stamp it again on buses.
- DAY TICKET - B.I.G. (Biglietto Integrato Giornaliero = "Integrated Daily Ticket")
Price: 4.00 Euro
It has the validity of the whole day on which it is stamped, allowing an unlimited number of rides on buses, tramways, subways and urban trains. It has to be stamped only once, and then simply shown at subway barriers, as a card.
THREE-DAY TICKET - B.T.I. (Biglietto Turistico Integrato = "Tourist Integrated Ticket")
Price: 11.00 Euro
It has the validity of the whole day on which it is stamped, allowing an unlimited number of rides on buses, tramways, subways and urban trains. It has to be stamped only once, and then simply shown at subway barriers, as a card.
- WEEKLY CARD - C.I.S. (Carta Integrata Settimanale = "Integrated Weekly Card")
Price 16.00 Euro
It has the same validity as the previous ticket, for one week.
It is a personal card, and has to be filled in with the owner's data.
- MONTHLY CARDS
There are two kinds of monthly pass:- Abbonamento Mensile Ordinario (= "Ordinary Monthly Card")

- Abbonamento Mensile Impersonale (= "Impersonal Monthly Card")

The bus leaves from piazza San Marco (piazza Venezia) every hour, from 9 am to 5 pm. The tickets are sold on board.

WHERE TO BUY TICKETS
While river boat tickets may be bought only on board, Metrebus tickets can be bought at any subway station (all stations have ticket machines, and a few also have ticket booths), at most tobacconist shops, newspaper kiosks and tourist information centers, and at many bars and cafeterias. If any of these happen not to sell them, they should know the closest place where to find them.
A limited number of ticket machines can be found in the street, next to main bus stops. Different kinds of tickets can be bought from the machines; some of them have a multi-language touch-screen selection system (as the one shown), but more often they have buttons.
Obviously, when buying a single metrebus ticket you won't need to state the direction or the distance: at a booth, simply say "uno" ("one"), or how many you need.

Metrebus tickets cannot be bought on board, except on night service buses.
It is advisable to buy weekly or monthly cards from a shop or from a tourist office, rather than from a machine.
Tourists might find useful to keep one or two spare single tickets in their pocket: especially during the shop closing time (usually from 1 PM to 3:30 or 4:00 PM, and after 8:00 PM), or on Sundays when most shops are closed, it might not be too easy to buy them, except from machines.
WHAT METREBUS TICKETS LOOK LIKE
The tickets now obtainable from shops and kiosks are the ones shown below, although sometimes their look may change due to advertisement or special offers they feature. The ones bought from vending machines are white in colour, and smaller. Price and validity (75 minutes, from the moment they are stamped) are the same for both types, althought they have to be inserted in different stamping machines: the larger ones are oval, yellow and black, while the smaller ones are rectangular and usually orange. The picture on the right shows both types of machines presently in use.
Inserting a valid ticket in the yellow (oval) one, a green light on the right indicates that it has been correctly stamped, otherwise a red one lights up on the opposite side, as a warning that the ticket is not valid. Once stamped, the ticket shows on the back its expiry date and time, as shown below, not to be mistaken with the date of emission, just above. It is always wise to check that the expiry time has been correctly printed.
Instead the other kind of machine only prints the stamping time and date on the end of the ticket; the expiry time has to be calculated by the holder.
Obviously both types of machine are found on buses as well as in subway stations.
The one-day tickets now in use are identical to the single ones, except for the different price and validity printed on the back. It is sufficient to stamp them once, on boarding the first vehicle, to make their validity start.

NOTE - reports have been made about some cases of new machines not working properly, that either reject valid tickets or that do not stamp them: in such cases, to avoid any inconvenience in the case of tickets being checked, it is better to report the problem to the driver of the vehicle, or to write on the ticket its expiry time with a pen.
Besides these two varieties, some kiosks and shops may still sell the old type of tickets; although they are rapidly going out of circulation, they are still valid. They have the same price and validity as the new ones, but they look different (see below). Their size is the same as the white tickets previously described, but these ones are orange. They have to be used in the rectangular stamping machines.
The same shops may still have also old one-day tickets, which are green in colour. Also these ones are still valid.

TAXI CABS
In Rome, taxis are rather expensive, so unless you really need one (because you got lost, or you are carrying heavy luggage, or you might miss a plane, etc.), remember that you can do very well by using the subway, the many buses, or your own feet.
Taxi cabs can be found in the streets (wave a hand at them: if they are free, they will stop), or at taxi parkings, located in some major squares or by train stations and airports.
Cars are usually white or yellow, but they can be any model of car. They always have a "TAXI" notice above them, and a fee meter on the dashboard, which should be clearly visible from the front and from the rear seats, as well.
In fact, taxis won't agree a fee according to the distance, but they will simply drive where you want, and ask you for the total sum shown on the display. Therefore, if you take a taxi, there is no way to know in advance how much you will pay, distance and traffic being the two main parameters which affect the cost of the ride. A few indicative prices may be:
- from Termini Station to the center of Rome: 15.000 - 30.000 Lire (7-15 Euro or US$)
- from Termini Station to the Vatican: 30.000 - 35.000 Lire (15-17 Euro or US$)
- from Rome to Fiumicino (Leonardo da Vinci airport): 70.000 - 100.000 Lire (35-45 Euro or US$)
As soon as the taxi sets off, the fee meter will not start from 0, but from a minimum sum (such as 3.000 Lire, 1.5 Euro or US$), and will slowly increase according to both distance and time: for this reason you should avoid taking a taxi in peak hours; in the case you get stuck in a traffic jam, ask the driver to leave you on the spot (honest drivers might even suggest this opportunity to you).
Take notice that an additional fee might be added to the final price, according to the number of passengers and suitcases (or any other luggage): this is not shown by the fee meter, so the final cost might be higher than the sum on the display.
Also be aware that at night-time, and on Sundays and other holidays, the fees are higher.
You don't have to tip the driver if you don't want to. Furthermore, some drivers have the bad habit of rounding up the final price as a sort of self-tipping.
If you can't find a taxi in the street or in a parking, or if you wish to be picked up by a taxi on the spot, you can phone a radio-taxi organization, who will send a cab where you are. The number of one of the largest companies is 06-3570. You will be asked to give your address and the phone number of the place from where you are calling, and they will ring you back in one-two minutes, giving you the code number of the car coming to pick you up. In this case, the fee meter will start at a higher sum than simply taking a taxi in the street.
Especially by train stations and touristic spots, it is extremely important to avoid illegal taxis, which are very likely to cheat tourists, and rip them off. In any case, they will always be more expensive than a legal cab.
They can be easily told by a number of details: their cars do not have a "TAXI" notice, they might not be white or yellow, and have no fee meter located on the dashboard.
Their owners often walk up to tourists and ask "Taxi?": no legal driver will ever offer his service in this way.
