How you can contribute to the Project

The Mills project is dedicated to on-going research into Alexander Rud Mills, his life and his works, and also the way he influenced early Odinist figures and how his works influence modern Odinism.

Publications

There are numerous publications that refer to Mills in some capacity. With the frequency of these increasing over the last few years, we might assume this reference is probably due to the general rise in interest in Heathenism and Western esotericism. That said, Mills is continually referred to, often in passing due to a lack of information, as the man who popularised the term "Odinist" and who spread his faith to the English-speaking world through a second generation of Odinists in the 1970s.

As part of this project, we endeavour to review publications that discuss Mills (in a positive light or otherwise) in an objective, non-adversarial manner and to test the reliability of claims. This will include all future publications and selected previously published material.

We have created a list of such publications and seek help in ensuring that it is maintained to include all new articles/publications concerning Mills. If you are aware of an article that doesn’t appear on this list, we would appreciate details of this together with a copy of the extract where possible.

Current Studies

We are aware that Mills and his Angelcynn Church of Odin have been considered as part of university studies concerning Western esotericism / Heathenism in a number of universities in Australia and the United States. We are interested in learning more about such courses and/or others where Mills is discussed as part of studies.

In September 2006, there was a conference entitled National Socialism in Australasia: A critical evaluation of its effect in Australasia and its aftermath held in Queensland by the Australian National University, where papers were presented concerning Mills and Leslie Cahill (another known Australian Odinist).

We would be interested in learning of any university courses (religious, political, etc) or events (conferences, etc) that concern Mills or his Anglecynn Church of Odin.

Articles/Publications sought

There are a number of publications that we are currently seeking concerning Mills. These have either been hard to obtain or only contain minor references (insufficient to warrant their purchase). Any help in obtaining the relevant extracts from these would be of great assistance.

These are as follows:

“The Wisdom of Rud Mills”

A column entitled “The Wisdom of Rud Mills” was contained in The Odinist newsletter for a period of time. This contained extracts from Mills publications and more importantly quotes from his correspondence with the newsletters author Else Christensen.

Primarily we would be interested in those columns containing excerpts from such correspondence.

One such column by this name concerning Mills influence on Else’s work is found in The Odinist, issue No. 65 (1982), would also be of value.

“A Short History of Odinism in the English-speaking world”

This article has been quoted by Goodrick-Clarke (Black Sun) and Gardell (Gods of the Blood), and we are interested in checking that these publications have quoted the original work correctly, which is by W. Kaldenberg and published in Pagan Revival, issue no 41, 1998.
