Newton and Mathison

Preflight and start. This flight was not an official but had three breathtaking laps before the engine, pipe, and fuel supply had a falling out.

This Newton/Mathison D job is powered by McGee 65 and eventually went 183+.

Doering and the Whight Knight

Howard Doering manages to get all the starting process together using only two hands. This 'long pipe' version for the CS engine proved difficult with the top on so Howard switched to the mini-pipe version.

On looking at these photo, Howard notes that in this test run of the CS .049 with pipe pressure he forgot to put on safety glasses as is proper practice.
