![]() THE BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONSPietro Fontana and Franco Amodio were veteran racers that were not afraid of technical adventures. The oil-cooled "Picus Horidus" that ran on 15% oil in 1964 was a big distance from the conventional models. In 1965 they added a retracting landing gear and integral airbrake. Fontana raced T/R through through the World Champs in Finland in 1972. Amodio continued with another team mate and Fontana went on to become World Champion flying speed. He is now a familiar face in the FAI jury. Fontana flew at the first contest in Budaors in 1962. There he met his wife to be, Judith Horvath, who later competed in the international scene. The color picture at Goran Olsson's site hypelinked below shows Pietro Fontana and fellow team members at the airport cafe in Liege-Bierset having breakfast in a sort of Italo-American style!. | |||||||||
