This is an article written by "Boris Grundge". A ring leader in the events below. Written circa 1989, he tried to recall what happened in these formative years and some of the people involved. The individuals mentioned have all moved on, changing quite a bit in the years after this was written.

When you start to think about the history or development of a specific competitive event in which you participated, the thing that first comes to mind are the people who where involved. These people are those whom you competed against or those who helped you in your quest for greater performance. In many cases they were the same individuals. Danny Jones-exceptional pilot; Jim Jolly - pit man and exceptional competitor; Jack Garcia- Pilot or pit man and always a very special person; Hi Johnson- the energy behind Dynamic Models and Johnson Engines, one of the most optimistic people I have ever met.

The emergence of an event tends to be regional in nature, although the input of information from "out side" can always be seen. This information may come from magazines or from having competitors from other areas show up at the meets. The following is my recollection of the events that were involved in the evolution of Rat Racing in the Southern California area.
