Installation and Running LINEII.EXE

The program LineII.exe is a program for Windows98/95 and Windows NT/Windows2000. This note explains the units used for input and output and provides a definition of the terms and instructions for installation.

The program performs an analysis of the drag and shape of the tether lines and some other factors of a control line model aircraft flying in level flight. These data are entered in a property sheet in either SI ("metric") or a slightly modified USCS (i.e. U.S. customary system), which I call "Modeler" units. Internal calculations are done in the SI system. Strict use of the USCS  system is violated in a few examples, for instance line diameters are in mils, not feet. the "modeler" system is a combination of English units that roughly correspond to usage in the United States.

The program itself is distributed as a ZIP file LINEII.ZIP. This file should be stored in the folder from which the program is to be run, when executed the program file LINEII.EXE will be extracted.

To download on the program click on this DOWNLOAD

To extact and use the program start with Windows Explorer (or Windows NT Explorer). Go to the folder in which the zip file LINEII.ZIP was stored. Unzip the file. The file LINEII.exe should appear. It will have a dark icon with the letters LD in it. Execute the program by double clicking on the icon. The first data that will appear are from an example case corresponding roughly to an F2C model.

The View menu provides a choice of units to be used for input and output.

The Parameters menu permits a new case name to be entered or to view and enter the Input Parameters. These parameters include atmospheric, model flight such as speed, and line parameters such as number of lines, length, wing cover ans so-on.

The program output includes the line drag (aerodynamic and pilot lead and lag effects combined) line offset at wingtip, lap time and "timed speed", density altitude, and other parameters of potential interest. A description of each of the output quantities is in the   section. F.

If you want to print the results select the File|Print option and the screen will be printed. If you want to save the case select File|Save and the file will be saved as a tyle ".ldx" file. This can be loaded later and used again.
