Pardes Valley

”Watertown is a critical hub for the materials made and the produce raised in Pardes Valley. Items from all over the valley come here to be shipped down river to Rocky Point, and from there to the whole Empire.”
”It is a large responsibility so the recent troubles are quite worrisome.”
”Many of the caravans in the valley have been attacked recently as they were coming to town. It is almost like the bandits knew when and where the caravans would be. Definitely bad for business, it is cutting into general trade.”

— Mayor Reeptheep of Watertown (Slavers of Pardes Valley)

Journal #34.25 Underground is progressing well. Contacts have been established in both Deerfield (with Vastro) and Watertown and the first few escapees have made it out of the valley using this location. Remember to buy more supplies for the shed.

5.2 Mayor Fredricks remarked privately that I sing rather well for a member of EI. He still has not heard anything more regarding a potential base for the slaver activity in the valley.

5.6 Spoke with Mayor Reeptheep in Watertown. He mentioned that there seemed to be more sea traffic than usual, but that I should contact the Port Authority or Mayor Cole on the Island for more information.

I should really get out there to introduce myself. Perhaps I can pick up new tunes from some of the sailors.
5.29 Returned from a journey to the south valley. Definitely some slaver activity down there, perhaps headquarters of the operation. Unable to identify the base, but a promising place to return to. (The journal continues.)
6.15 Heard from headquarters that I will be getting some assistance soon. Sounds like they are sending fresh recruits. Hopefully they won't mess things up or blow my cover. Must get them some useful supplies as well. Perhaps they can masquerade as adventurers or something. Advents are usually a bumbling lot. Have to get some equipment for them.
7.7 Finally got out to Rocky Point on the island and introduced myself to Mayor Cole. He seemed taken aback that EI was in the area and had heard nothing about any slaver activity. Well, at least he knows I'm here.
Stopped in Port Authority too. Captain Ellen said that while it appears that there may be more ships in the area, no more than usual have been docking at the PA. She said she'd keep her ears open. Bright soldier. Have to try to get her into EI.
Very strange town overall. I guess it takes all kinds in the Empire, but that is not somewhere I would want to retire to.
7.9 On the way back up, met with some escapees in Deerfield. Seems the main base may be East in the woods. They also described some type of mining operation going on in the south. Must investigate that. Glad I am restocked for when they come by.

”I used to run a wagon caravan taking produce from the farms to the mines and bringing back metal, but we got waylaid on the road. Most of my crew was killed but these bandits decided to hold me for ransom.”
”Yes, the mines. They are south of Deerfield and south-west of Watertown. We get all of our ore from the hills there.”
”The valley is full of farms. I travel all over, buying and trading goods and collecting produce, both for transport overland and out by sea to Rocky Point."
"Rocky Point is out on Voca, the Island to the east. Really the only habitable part of the island. They serve as the shipping hub for the valley, since the coast line is too dangerous to bring boats in."

Kornoff, abducted merchant (Slavers of Pardes Valley)

”Here goes." The beer is quite good. "Gotta run. Not many ships but lots of strangers. Maybe it has to do with Cole's guards or something.”

— Iroz, municipal innkeeper in Rocky Point (Slavers of Pardes Valley)

"Slaves from all over the Empire are gathered there, it seems. Perhaps even from this valley. We were kept in small cages, cells, and holding areas. It was horrible.”
”I arrived in this part of the world at night, first by ship and then by wagon. I escaped at night, through the forest. I don't know where the slave pits are beyond that they are well into the forest."
”There are many stations along the 'underground' where kind folks help those of us who have escaped. They feed us and give us what they can.”
”This is the last station in the valley. I am headed West into the hills. There is supposed to be a safe house there.”

— Sklee, escaped slave, hiding in Deerfield (Slavers of Pardes Valley)

"There do seem to be extra ships about. They avoid the Port and seem to head to the other side of the Islands. There is nothing there but mountains, though.”
