Troubleshooting WinCDG Problems

Things to check first

Check these first to determine where the problem is...

Did you download Mimic to get ALL the proper VB runtimes?
WinCDG will not work if some of the runtimes are missing.
Do you have MS Mediaplayer installed? Which version?
WinCDG should work version 5.1 or higher, 6.4 recommended. 7 compatible.
Does MS Mediaplayer play the MP3 file?
This confirms the file is a standard MP3 file. Some MP3's have corrupt tags or are encoded at a non-standard setting.
Does Mimic play the MP3 file?
This confirms that the MCI device is properly set up. You may need to change the MCI device or install the "alternate" device. If it plays with "Activemovie" then you will need to check the "ALT" box in WinCDG.
Can WinCDG play WAV or MIDI files? (select activemovie filter in the open dialog)
Again, this confirms the MCI device is working.
Do you have a hardware DVD or MPEG decoder card?
This could re-assign the MCI device causing a strange "video window" to appear in addition to the normal WinCDG window.
Is your video card fast enough?
Try 1x size at 1fps to see if it works. Start increasing the FPS or display size to find the optimal setting. If possible try 8, 16, 24 and 32 bit depths (some cards may be optimized for specific settings).
Is your CDG file okay?
Can you re-create the file from the original disc?

Solutions

Try the following. Check if the problem is fixed after each step. Reboot after each...

Re-install Mimic
Re-install MS MediaPlayer
Upgrade to a newer MS MediaPlayer
Uninstall MediaPlayer, delete the file "quartz.dll", reboot then reinstall MediaPlayer
Re-install Windows (last resort)
Try a different computer
Try a different Video Card
