Nevada Fields Space Center:
A hectic atmosphere prevailed in the main bunker during the final
launch preparations. The engineering team had been working for hours inside
spaceport's the electronic nerve centre. They were examining
the circuits of the astroelectronic computer, utilized
for possible course corrections.
They also checked System B, a special launch
monitoring computer for stage separation controls and remote steering.
The final performance checks of the E-Brain or System C showed
an accuracy of up to the tenth decimal place. This system was the
coordinator
for all detailed radar echoes, as well as the command and data
gathering station for the remote controlled infrared detection
sensors and
cameras. It functioned perfectly as expected.
The chief engineer reported the three main systems of the launching
and remote guidance electronics as clear and ready.
All systems had been proven to work flawlessly during the many preceding launches. The underlying nervousness however, told the
experienced
observer that this was not a normal launching sequence.
