It is a sweet three-peat for the Sandwich Sabres.

The Sabres mowed over London Lucas 27-4 to take their third straight OFSAA West Bowl title Friday at the SkyDome.

"It's a great feeling," coach John Bloomfield said. "And our season isn't over yet. We still have to play another championship game in Windsor next week."

The game started off slowly until QB Todd Gillis hit Michael Carter with a 32-yard pass for the first Sabres score.

But Lucas, despite the fact this was their third game in a week, showed surprising resiliency and after the first quarter the Sabres clung to a 7-3 lead.

The second quarter was also frustrating for the Sabres after a pair of long touchdown runs by Mark Metulynsky --- an 80-yard play and a 50-yard pass reception -- were called back on penalties. But in the third quarter the Vikings started to wilt under the offensive onslaught of the Sabres. A serious knee injury to defensive tackle Josh Zucchet fired up the Sabres, Metulynsky said.

"Josh's injury got us going," he said.

Metulynsky scored a pair of touchdowns to seal his third title with the Sabres.
