The Toronto Star published the following report by David Grossman on Decmeber 6th:

Three years ago, St. Michael's head football coach Paul Forbes marvelled about Kerry Blues running back Charlie Houghton, now a star at Georgetown University.

Yesterday, Forbes again was bragging about a Houghton – Charlie's younger brother Eddie.

The youngster, who graduates in June and hopes to play at an Ivy League school next year, was the difference as the Kerry Blues continued their GTA gridiron dynasty.

A star running back like his older brother, the 5-foot-10, 205-pound Houghton left his mark on the Huron Heights Warriors with two touchdowns – including a 29-yarder that turned out to be the winner – as St. Mike's hung on to win another Metro Bowl.

The 16-14 win, in front of a crowd of about 1,000 chilled spectators at Varsity Stadium, was the sixth championship in eight appearances for St. Mike's.

"Beautiful, what a great feeling, and the offensive line deserves all the credit in the world," Houghton said.

"When I came to St. Mike's, I wanted to make a mark like my brother. I'm so proud of him, how I learned from him."

Houghton, held under the 100-yard rushing total for the first time in 10 games against Canadian schools this year, carried the ball 19 times for 84 yards against a defence that had allowed just one touchdown in its 12 previous games.

"He's the heart and soul of the team, he comes up with the big play and is just a great football player," said Forbes. "(Huron Heights) was the toughest team we've faced. Both defences were outstanding, but when you break down the game, Eddie Houghton was the difference."

St. Mike's wasted little time scoring, as Houghton's four-yard touchdown capped a five-play opening drive for the Kerry Blues, who carried a 6-0 lead into the second half.

Chris Patrician added a 14-yard field goal and Houghton's second major, with 2:21 left in the third quarter, appeared to be enough for the victory.

But on came the Warriors.

Kept off the scoreboard for three quarters for the first time this season, Huron Heights created some late-game excitement.

First it was Warriors running back Bryan Dunjko, who ran 14 yards for a touchdown with 1:04 gone in the final quarter. Then it was Andrew Schmid's turn with a six-yard major that came six plays after teammate Josh Scott intercepted a Chris Rossetti pass with 2:46 left on the clock.

"We couldn't get anything done in the first half and maybe that says something about the St. Mike's defence. Then, when things started to happen, we ran out of time," said Warriors head coach Al Rover.
