Benajah Brown (1762-1805)


After the revolution, Benajah Brown bought land on the Genessee River N.Y. at Big Tree or Painted Point.   Lost his property in lawsuit and so left in 1797 and came to Canada crossing at Fort Erie.   Moved from there to Bow Park Farm on the Grand River where he taught the Indians around there.   1801 he and his family moved to Oxford County 2 miles west of Ingersoll on the Thames River.   In 1805 he went to Little York (Toronto) for supplies and was drowned crossing the ice at Hamilton Bay January 25, 1805.   Buried in Ingersoll Cemetery.
