DEATH OF MRS. B. P. BROWN
BROWN - At the residence of her husband, B. P. Brown, Esq., of Brownsville, on Tuesday
the 11th April, 1882, Elizabeth Brown in the 80th year of her age.
The death in our midst of one so long known and so much beloved deserves more than a passing
notice.  The deceased was born in the year 1796, in what was known as the Long
Point District - now Norfolk County - then with the exception of Ancaster the only
settlement in Upper Canada, west of Toronto.  She and her aged husband were
married on the first of January, 1816, and settled by the late Col. Talbot, on Talbot
Street, St. Thomas.  Here they remained until the spring of 1841, when they
moved into Dereham, their wagon being the first to come from Aylmer to the present village
of Brownsville.  Her hardships were very great, but patiently endured, and her
whole life seems to have been devoted to the care, comfort, and welfare of her large
family - eight sons and three daughters, all of whom are living, her death being the first
break in the family.  On the fiftieth anniversary of their marriage upwards of
100 of her children and grand children met at the homestead to celebrate their golden wedding,
and again at sixty years when when a larger number assembled.
Before her death she expressed a wish that her sons should carry from her old home to
her grave.  This was done by the six sons present at the funeral and the scene
was a most affecting one.  The funeral took place on Friday last, when the
whole neighborhood assembled to pay a last tribute to a kind and loving friend and
neighbor.  Her aged and bereaved husband and family have the profound sympathy of
all.
