DEATH OF AN OLD RESIDENT-One by one the old pioneers of our country are passing away.  The death on Monday last of Brinton Paine Brown, of Brownsville, removes from our midst one of the oldest residents of this Province.  Deceased was born in August, 1797, in the County of Oxford, on the farm now belonging to the family of the late Jacob Choate, and was consequently in his 87th year at the time of his death.  Mr. Brown, we believe, was the second white child born in this county, Col. Ingersoll being the first.  When the troubles of 1812 broke out, he, then 15 years of age, volunteered his services in defence of his native country, and was stationed at Long Point and Niagra during the whole war.  He married at the age of 21, and located upon a farm on the Talbot Road, near St. Thomas.  Having cleared up his farm, he sold it and removed to the Township of Dereham, where he purchased a very large tract of what at that time was a wilderness, now a beautiful farm.  His team was the first to travel between Aylmer and Brownsville.  Mrs. Brown died in April, 1882, they having lived together upwards of 65 years.  A large and respectable family - eight sons and two daughters are left to mourn the loss of their aged father.  Deceased was through life a staunch Reformer in politics, esteemed and respected by all who knew him.  The funeral took place on Wednesday morning, the remains being followed to the Brownsville burying ground by a large concourse of people.
"We have this week to chronicle the death of another veteran, Mr. Brinton P. Brown, of Brownsville, father of Mr. E. B. Brown, Deputy Reeve of Dereham, and Mr. P. J. Brown, barrister of Ingersoll.  The old gentleman died at his residence in Brownsville, on Monday, aged 86 years.  The deceased was one of the pioneers of the county of Oxford, and in his lifetime aided materially in developing its resources.  He leaves a large circle of relatives, most of them being wealthy and influential residents of the district around Brownsville and Tilsonburg.  He was widely known and very highly respected by all his acquaintances, and their name is legion."
