PIRATES OF SILICON VALLEY

In the film ¡°Pirates of Silicon Valley¡±, I observed how Apple and Microsoft have formed to mega-corporations from their garage state. I found it interesting though, how Gates cheated his way in. From the film, I learned that you can make lots of money when you steal somebody¡¯s small but great ideas.

QUESTIONS:

1. Who did Steve Jobs think was the "enemy" and who was the real enemy? Support your answer with direct evidence from the film.

Answer: Steve Jobs thought his ¡°enemy¡± was IBM. But it turns out it was Microsoft after all. Gates told him he was going to work for him but turned out Gates was stealing the graphical user interface technology from Jobs.

2. At the beginning of the film, Steve Jobs thanks Bill Gates for "standing with us", why? Support your answer with references to sources of information from the internet.

Answer: He thanked him for ¡°standing with us¡± because he believed he and Gates¡¯ competition is over. He also believed it¡¯s better place to live without competition. In real life, microsoft owns parts of Apple Computers.

3.Who is Captain Crunch, what did he discover, and what was the frequency in Hertz of the device he used? Support your answer with references to sources of information from the internet.

Answer: Captain Crunch is a person Jobs knew when he was in college. He discovered a whistle came with Captain Crunch serial had the same tone as AT&T tones. According to site ¡°myoldmac.net/FAQ/TheBlueBox-1.htm¡±, it uses 2600Hz.

4. Steve Jobs considered himself to be spiritually enlightened. Considering his portrayal in the film, is that true? Support your answer with direct evidence from the film.

Answer: Yes, it is true. When their was riots in Berkerley, Steve wasn¡¯t very panicking but he found karma and the meaning of Universe

5. Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak built "Blue Boxes". What is a "Blue Box" and how did making and selling "Blue Boxes" contravene Steve Jobs' views about intellectual property theft? Support your answer with direct evidence from the film.

Answer: A blue box is the device gets you long distance phone call for free. They learned the principle of Blue Box from Captain Crunch.

6. Bill Gates quit Harvard before finishing his undergraduate degree in order to pursue his computer business but he did not know if he would be successful - he gambled. What in his personal history prepared him to be a gambler? Support your answer with references to sources of information from the internet.

Answer: He used to play poker with his friends when he had nothing to do. He actually loved to play poker and he played it a lot.

7. What was it about the Microsoft deal with IBM that led to Microsoft's phenomenal success? Support your answer with direct evidence from the film.

Answer: Bill Gates introduced IBM he already operating system called DOS (Diskette Operating System) which he didn¡¯t have. IBM agreed to take a deal with Microsoft, and Bill managed to buy DOS from person who created it. Then he made Microsoft had phenomenal success.

8. Where did Apple get the ideas for the Lisa and Macintosh computers and was the use of those ideas ethical? Support your answer with direct evidence from the film and, additionally, from at least one source of information from the internet.

Answer: Apple got their idea from artists. He knew artist copies others work but greatest artists steal others work.

9. Who would you rather work for: Bill Gates or Steve Jobs? Explain why and support your answer with direct evidence from the film.

Answer: I would work for Steve because Steve had his own dream and motivations. Bill Gates was simply stealing people¡¯s idea to get richer but Steve didn¡¯t really steal people¡¯s idea. I am the person who simply don¡¯t gamble my way through.

10. What did you find interesting in the film PIRATES OF SILICON VALLEY? Explain/Discuss.

Answer: I found interesting how Microsoft and Apple evolved from small to mega corporation. Their success stories is huge influence to others in my opinion.
