Family History: Little is known of this family except for what has been gleaned from the few records that have survived. It appears that Edward Keefe settled at Caplin Bay before 1830 and lived there for over forty years. Exactly when he died is not known, however the last record of a Keefe at Caplin Bay shows that Edward was still alive when a list of the head of households was recorded for Lovell's 1871 Directory. Old maps of Caplin Bay show that his initial land grant in 1838 was for a substantial piece of property. The property, which was located on the south side of the bay, is now split by the road that leads to the area known as The Point.
Crown Land Grant #240 indicates that Edward (O') Keef(e) was a fisherman from Ferryland. It is not known why he settled at Caplin Bay, but we can speculate that he married a woman from there. No baptism records have been found for any children, however the Vital Statistic death records show that a Michael Keefe, born at Caplin Bay about 1829, died at Tors Cove in 1894.
