HISTORY
The OHA granted London a franchise in 1965.  Back in 1965 NHL teams owned the Jr clubs and ran them as farm teams. London was owned by the Toronto Maple Leafs. The London team was called the Nationals and wore the Maple Leafs blue and white . The Nationals named  Jack McIntyre as the coach in their first season. . The London Nationals played their games at the London Gardens in the Treasure Island Plaza. Some stars you may remember from the Nationals are Walt McKechnie, Darryl Edestrand, Garry Unger, Rick Kehoe. Jack McIntyre coached for one year and was replaced by Turk Broda. Turk coached the team for the final  2 years.

Three business men Claude Bennett, Sol Ages and Howard Darwin bought the Nationals in 1968. The wanted to change the team so they held a name the team contest. The winner of the contest was Brian Logie and Bob Henderson. ( see Jim Van Horne's interview with Brian here)The name "London Knights" was chosen , the team changed colours to the "green and gold" and had a knights head as a logo on their new jerseys.  Sol Ages passed away shortly after the three bought the team. Howard Darwin bought the remaining shares from Claude and took over full ownership of the team.  Howard Darwin remained owner until 1986 when a the league passed a rule stating that a person could only own one team because of the conflict of interest. Darwin decided to sell the Knights and keep the Ottawa 67's.

In 1987 three bussinessmen from Paris , Ontario bought the Knights and the Gardens from Howard Darwin for $1 providing they keep the team in London. Jack Robillard, Robert Wilson and Al Martin became the new owners.  The three kept the green and gold look, the green was slightly brighter and the gold more a yellow. They changed the old knights head logo to a more modern design and added a large "L" to the logo.  The three owned the team until 1994.

In 1994 Doug Tarry Sr, former mayor of St. Thomas and businessman bought Jack Robillards one third share of the Knights. Doug Tarry Sr.  passed away shortly after and the remaining family members Francis, Bill, Greg, Kathryn and Doug Tarry Jr bought the remaining two thirds of the team. Doug Tarry Jr. would become the new President and Governor of the Knights. The Tarry's also decided to change the Knights Logo and Colours. The traditional green and gold was replaced with Eggplant and Teal. The kights head logo would be transformed into a full body knight. The new logo became known as "Knightro".

In May of 2000 Dale and Mark Hunter bought the London Knights.  Dale would become President and Governor and Mark became the Director of Operations. The Hunters kept the Eggplant and Teal until midway through the 2001/2002 season when they brought back the green and gold. The new jerseys sported the 1987-1994 logoon the front  with the 1968-86 logo on one shoulder and the 1994-2001 logo on the other shoulder. The "away" jerseys went from dark green to black. The Knights remained in the gardens until October 11, 2002 when they moved into the new John Labatt Centre. London beat Plymouth in the home opener 5 to 4. The Knights added a third jersey in 2002, it was the word "knights" diagonally across the front.
