The 2004 men's competitive
fastball season began in Fitzroy Harbour on Friday May 14 with Kanata Team
Easton in town. Opening night didn’t go
as planned for the WC Electric as they fell 7-0 in a five-inning mercy rule
shortened game to Kanata Team Easton. Dan
Konkle, one of Ontario’s top intermediate pitchers, went the distance for Team
Easton with 12 strikeouts and allowing only one hit. Kanata catcher Todd Fraser went 3 for 3 with a homerun for the
visitors. For the Electric, Bud Hanlon
got into trouble starting in the third and gave up 10 hits and 7 runs over four
innings. Jason Armstrong pitched well
in one inning of relief, holding last year’s champions to a single hit. Troy Wilson had the only hit for the
Electric. Jon Daley reached on an error
and had a stolen base. Michael Cavanagh
filled in well as catcher with Steve Johnson on the sidelines with an injured
knee.
