· Eight team tournament held Aug 23-24
in Shawville, Quebec
· We were bolstered by a few tourney
pick ups as some of our regulars were unavailable. Our last tourney of the season.
· Game 1 Sat morning: we played the
Quyon "Heroes" which were a last minute addition to the tournament
and made up of some young teenagers from the Quyon area. We won 13-4, with Barry Storie getting the
pitching victory. We had a lot of hits
off their young pitcher, including a 10-run inning. The game was called after 5
innings on the mercy rule. Tourney
pick-up Mike Withers had a home-run for the Electric.
· Game 2 Sat afternoon: we played a
team that made the drive up from Kingston.
We pounded them 8-0. This game
was also called after 5 innings on the mercy rule. Bud Hanlon got the pitching win as the other team only put three
balls in play the entire game because they couldn't catch up to Bud's speed.
· Game 3 Sun afternoon Semi
Finals: We played our arch rivals from
Micksburg. Unfortunately for them, the
Costello cousins couldn't pitch on the weekend, and their third pitcher Len
Burger's father-in-law died on Saturday afternoon, so they had a skeleton staff. We started early with a 5 run first inning
and chased starting pitcher Jamey Mick.
Jim Ryan was supposed to start the game as pitcher for the Electric but
pulled a hamstring legging out a triple in the first. This meant Bud Hanlon got the ball to pitch. Our bats were on fire and we spanked them
10-1. Charlie Ross had two monstrous
homeruns for the Electric.
· Game 4 Sun evening Finals: We faced
Shawville Hursty's Bar. (Shawville
split their regular league team into two for this tourney). They started wily lefthander Gord Flannery pitching,
we started Barry Storie also a lefty.
Shawville jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the third when Storie was pulled
for Hanlon. (Storie moved to first
base.) The Electric came back with a
big rally to make it 5-3, but Shawville scored 3 in the bottom of the fifth on
some defensive miscues to take a 6-5 lead.
Both teams couldn't score in the sixth.
In the top of the seventh with one out, Charlie Ross got on base with a
single and Neil Murphy reached base on a misplayed bunt. The next batter, Barry Storie, stroked a
2-RBI single to put the Electric ahead 7-6.
Shawville couldn't respond in the bottom of the seventh and we won the
tournament with a 4-0 record. Bud
Hanlon got the pitching victory.
· We outscored our opponents 38-11 in
the four games we played.
Roster for the tourney was Adam Brown (left field), Jon Daley (centre field), Shawn Ryan (right field), Mike Withers (third base), Charlie Ross (shortstop), Jason Armstrong (second base), Neil Murphy (first/third base), Barry Storie (pitcher), Bud Hanlon (pitcher), Jim Ryan (pitcher), Dwayne ‘Woody’ Cameron (catcher).
