Notes:
After two scoreless innings,
Fitzroy scored in the top of the third, with Neil Murphy hitting a lead of
double and being brought in by a Jon Daley single. Easton responded in the bottom of the third, with Al Read
scoring on a Randy Peck sacrifice fly to left field. Mike Cavaangh hit a solo home run in the top of the fourth
to put Fitzroy up 2-1. In the
bottom of the seventh, Kyle Olson reached on a walk, was moved to second on a
Al Read sacrifice bunt and was brought home with a clutch RBI double by “Pedro”
Harvey. With the international
rule in effect, Fitzroy scored Neil Murphy with a Steve Johnson bloop single in
the top of the eighth. Fitzroy
intentionally walked Randy Peck to put both Pecks on base in the bottom of the
eighth and Big Bud Hanlon got the next three outs he needed to seal the win.
Game Two will be played at
the Carp Fairgrounds on Thursday September 23 at 7:30 as the teams have been
invited by the fair board to play as part of the 141st Carp Fair.
