Corey Costello (Micksburg) – solo walk off home run
to win the series.

intermediate fastball throughout the season)
MICKSBURG
– Corey Costello settled the men’s regional fastball final with one swing of
the bat on a long and cold Friday night in Micksburg.
In
the bottom of the eighth extra inning, Costello ripped a solo home run over the
fence in centre field to give the Twins a 1-0 win in what was essentially game
three of the series.
After
Kanata won game two, the teams played sudden-death extra innings to determine
the series winner.
In
a serious pitching duel, Costello battled with Kanata’s Dan Konkle, both
fanning batters in order.
Through
15 innings Konkle struck out 29, gave up seven hits and only one run.
Costello
fanned 17 batters, surrendered three hits and four runs.
The
Twins had the best chance to end the extra innings in the bottom of the 11th
after Costello slapped a leadoff triple. Kanata put both Jamey Mick and Brad
Steege on base with intentional walks to load the bases. But the gamble paid
off as Konkle battled back to strike out Kerr Childerhose, Brent McIntyre and
Dwight Mick to escape the inning.
The
Greater Ottawa Fastball League champion Kanata Team Easton won game two of the
regional final 4-0.
After
four scoreless innings, Team Easton got out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the
fourth on a RBI single by Randy Peck and a two- run homer by John Peck.
In the sixth Kevin
Chevrier doubled and scored on a Randy Peck RBI groundout to put Kanata up 4-0..
