Easton Wins!!!!

Team Easton won its third consecutive GOFL title on the strength of a 3 hit complete game from hard throwing right hander Dan Konkle.

Easton scored first as Dave Tubman reached on error to lead off the third. Kevin Chevrier followed with a ground ball to the Stittsville second baseman that was "Bill Bucknered" allowing Tubman to advance to third and Chevrier to first. Tubman then scored on Randy Peck's ground ball to first base.

The second Easton run came in the fifth inning. With one out, Tubman and Chevier hit back to back singles to ignite the offence. Easton then caught the 56ers napping. With 3rd baseman Scott Parsons protecting against the bunt, and SS Scott Herriot shading up the middle, Tubman was able to swipe third uncontested in the front end of a double steal. Randy Peck was then walked to load the bases, but brother John Peck lifted a fly ball to center field to score Tubman from third. Dan Konkle grounded out to end the inning.

Despite another solid pitching performance from 56er hurler Dan Bradley, the 56ers offence again struggled to provide any run support. Not until the seventh inning, with their backs against the wall, did Stittsville manage to push a run across. Ryan Bond started the inning with a lead off walk, Followed by a Darren Featherstone single. Scott Jessiman was called to sacrifice and laid down a nice bunt that was fielded cleanly by Easton's John Peck. Peck decided to take the lead runner, however his throw hit Bond as he was sliding into third. With the bases juiced and no one out John Craig hit a ground ball to Easton SS Darrell Warren, which scored Ladouceur (now running for the injured Bond) and advanced Jessiman and Featherstone. That run was all Stittsville would get as Konkle was able to bear down and strike out Scott Parsons for the key second out, and induce a series ending ground ball from Scott Herriot.

Kudos to both clubs for an intense and closely played series, and congratulations to Team Easton on winning their third consecutive title.
